Hunters are humans who have been augmented by Lifeweaver science, granting them enhanced senses and physical abilities.

Castes[]

There are several "castes" of Hunters, separated along lines similar to those warriors of millennia ago. They identified with a particular animal that served as a fetish, the source of their power. Now, the castes have official designations, named after their fetish animals.

The main character of the Vampire Earth series, David Valentine, becomes a member of all three extant castes: Wolves, Cats, and Bears.

Wolves[]

Main article: Wolf (Hunter)

The largest of the Hunter castes, Wolves are members of the military forces of Southern Command, deployed as rangers or special forces who keep the frontier safe and interdict any Kurian incursion. Wolves have abilities far in excess of ordinary humans, possessing enhanced endurance along with auditory and olfactory senses on par with those of a wolf.

Cats[]

Main article: Cat (Hunter)

The second-largest Hunter caste, Cats are much more rare than the Wolves. These individuals have been blessed with enhanced agility and speed coupled with an innate sense of stealth. They infiltrate into the KZs to spy on their enemies, rescue civilians and other operatives, and engage in acts of sabotage and assassination. Unlike Wolves, who instinctively band together like the animals they are based on, Cats typically operate alone, as in the case of the legendary Reaper-killer, Eveready.

Bears[]

Main article: Bear (Hunter)

The smallest extant caste of Hunters, Bears are nevertheless a force unto themselves. Their augmentations grant them enhanced strength and an unstoppable force of will. These augmentations were designed by the Lifeweavers to allow a Bear to go hand-to-hand with a Reaper, the Kurians' deadliest servants. A Bear will fly into a berserker rage if provoked, and he will take a great deal of punishment before succumbing to his wounds.

Ravens[]

There was once a fourth group of Hunters, called the Ravens. They had the ability to communicate with the Lifeweavers through a telekinetic like pathway. They are also able to disguise themselves as an ally or non-conspicuous person to whom they speak with. The river boat caption reveals himself as a raven in March In Country and offers David Valentine an option to become one. Most ravens went insane from their alterations and died where others had disappeared after Solon's takeover.
